Aaden Sage Proffitt was born on October 8th of 2008. 8 pounds and 4 ounces of pure joy to his mommy and daddy. Aaden was brought him into this world only 15 short months after his big brother. Aaden had made his mommy’s heart complete. She had two sweet little boys and big dreams of them growing up together, sharing a bedroom, sharing toys, sharing friends and experiences… sharing life. She dreamed they would be the best of friends. The first few days of Aaden’s life were bliss for his little family. They laughed and cuddled and made plans for the future.On November 15, 2008, only a little over 5 weeks after Aaden was brought into the world, he died in his sleep. His mommy found him not breathing, his little body lifeless. In that moment her life changed forever.
I want you to know Aaden because he changed my life. He helped me to see the beauty of the everyday; to hug tighter and cuddle longer and sing at the top of my lungs and dance in the kitchen and laugh harder than ever before. He brought us life.
The Balloon
The balloon represents a celebration. We celebrate the gift of life. We celebrate the days we had with our son and the gift that his life was to so many. We celebrate the lessons we have learned because of Aaden’s life. We celebrate that we know and trust in a God who gives us an eternity where there is no pain or tears.
We celebrate because we serve and know a God who gives hope above all.
The balloon represents our love for our son and our faith that he is in a place devoid of suffering and pain and death. He is in a place full of life.
Each year on Aaden’s birthday and his heavenly birthday we send our little balloons up in the air, reminding each of us that while we miss him so very much and that we absolutely cannot wait until we see him again, he is in a place far more grand than we could ever imagine.
And I like the thought that he sees us celebrating him. It fills my heart with joy to feel like his mama in that moment.
